Life is a journey of ever-changing scenery. Sometimes the paths we have come from have been treacherous, leading us to a road where we feel lost, defeated, and unsure of who we are. Other times, we have traveled through bright countryside but come to a place of dark and diverging roads where we cannot clearly see any path ahead. We become stuck, unsure of what path to follow.
Whatever your journey has been and wherever you are along your journey, the life journey challenges us to courageously explore the best and worst parts of ourselves. Armed with this knowledge and insight, we can heal the pain of our past, strengthen our resilience, find who we are as our authentic selves and become empowered to move forward with confidence. It is my hope to walk beside you through this part of your journey to help you heal, improve your resilience, and to guide you in gaining self-knowledge to define your authentic self.
I am a licensed clinical social worker with a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota (2022), a bachelor’s degree in experimental psychology (2017), and an associate degree in nursing (1989). My career has been grounded in mental and medical health, and social service. I enjoy working with teens through older adult individuals of various socioeconomic classes, cultures, and religious or spiritual beliefs. Areas of particular interest and experience include challenging life transitions (LGBTQ+, grief, divorce, coping with medical/mental illness,
rebuilding adult identity), gender dysphoria, support for gender affirming medical care, complex trauma, dissociative disorders, PTSD, achieving sobriety from alcohol/substance use coping behaviors, and relationships.
My approach to therapy is an eclectic person-centered and trauma informed practice that includes evidence-based treatment interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I am trained in the evidence-based trauma treatments of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and EMDR and working toward certification in EMDR.
